Loving The Family You Have

February 11, 2010

Ever notice that when we are with our families we often look through a lens that is younger than our years of experience?  We probably all have lots of examples, especially during the holidays.

That’s because if we tell ourselves the truth we are expecting or we want that idyllic family that we recall from our youth or the family we wanted but never had.

Try this.  Right now. Right this moment.  Take the lens off and really look at the family you have now — replete with all the gifts and warts. Find something that touches you. Then find another something that touches you. And another, and so on. They are there, believe me.

And then, simply, love the family you ‘have’.
